Acute insomnia
Insomnia is a medical state characterized by the incapacity of the patient to sleep for a reasonable period of time. Insomnia is categorized in to three types-transient, acute and chronic. Acute insomnia lasts from one single night to a few weeks. Transient and short term insomnia is grouped under acute insomnia. Acute insomnia varies from chronic insomnia, and the acute insomnia shows some common mild symptoms while affecting a person. The person who is suffering from acute insomnia may also have the trouble of anxiety, nights without sleep, panic attacks and so on. The sleeplessness if left untreated will lead to chronic insomnia. Acute insomnia can also occur as a result of death in the family, arrival of a new-born child in the family, change in the position or nature of the work, any change in the usage of medicine and so on. The attacks of insomnia can last for a maximum of one week and then it automatically disappears.
Acute insomnia can occur because of the environmental changes such as improper lighting arrangement in the bed room. It is important to note and make necessary alterations for proper lighting in the bed room. The environmental change also includes the noise pollution which can also cause acute insomnia. If a person moves recently to a noisy sector, he has to find a solution for noise pollution by closing the windows and by running a fan. Acute insomnia can also occur when a new baby arrives in the family. Few mothers suffer from the baby blue when a child is born. This will cause provisional insomnia and it may need drugs to cure it. There is also possibility for a person to suffer from acute insomnia when a death occurs in the family. Before going to bed avoid the consumption of coffee, smoking, alcohol, and other chemical and harmful substances which prevent the sleep.
Acute insomnia is usually as a result of a stressing event, environmental disturbances such as the noise, rupture of the normal sleep wake cycle, the feeling of extreme temperatures such as too hot or too cold, jet lag or the side effects of certain drugs. Acute insomnia often does not require any medical treatment, as it occurs only from time to time and it stops automatically once when the cause is identified.
The treatment of acute insomnia includes regular exercise as general fitness is important to maintain good health. The exercise must be done in the early morning and hard activity must be avoided the before going to sleep. Try to avoid heavy meals and the excessive fluids before going to sleep. Control the environment from light, noise, and the high ambient temperature which can disturb the sleep. The circadian rhythm of our body is particularly sensitive to the light. Acute insomnia can be treated naturally and there is no need to take any sleeping pills or other drugs. Learning the tactics of stress reduction will also help to avoid or reduce the risk of acute insomnia.
